7 habits of highly effective teens
Part 1: Get in the habit |
|
This first part of the book was about the author Sean Covey and why he wrote the book. Then the books talks about the first habit, Get In The Habit. This habit is about how the habits build up each other. It also talks self mastery like before you win in public you have to win inside its also called the private victory. The book also explains that there are also 7 habits of highly defective teens. Most of these habits are things like blaming someone else for what you did, wearing yourself out and thinking everything is a conversation. In conclusion most important part about this part of the book is that the habits can helps or break us.
Paradigms and principles
In this part the book talks about paradigms and principles and how they how they effect us. A paradigm is basically your way of seeing thinking about something. It also says perspectives can change the way you think. The author connects principles to paradigms and writes about the main principles. He writes that you should not be too captivated by a certain principle because if something goes wrong it could be hard overcoming that problem. He makes a good metaphor by comparing paradigms to a pair of glasses. If you don't have the right pair of glasses how can you judge something?
Part 3 : Personal Bank Account
This part about the book is about being happy about yourself and actions. the author says its called the Personal Bank Account because he thinks of your actions and your deeds as money. For an example, when you're depositing money would be making a promise and breaking it would mean you would withdraw that promise. The promises don't even have to be big, they can be small but they still add up.
Part 4 habit 1 Be proactive
This part is when the book talks about being proactive. Proactive means to take responsibility, and take action. Proactive people tend to have an easier life, as they are more responsible. In the book it says four tips that are important to be proactive : self-awareness, conscience, imagination, and willpower. An example can be , sweeping the floor or washing the dishes . There could be a mountain-stack of dishes if no one does it, it's going to overfill until one of the dishes falls out and breaks . With this habit you can solve a lot of your problems.
Part 5 Habit 2 Begin with the end in mind
This habit is a habit I heard before but never knew what it meant. But it literally have your goal planned out so you know how you're going to reach that goal. It can lead to the right decisions like school. Say your goal is to finish school and get a diploma, you will get it only if you work hard for it. But if someone who is careless and takes the wrong path such as cheating their way through school it can lead you the wrong way. This a great habit to be organized with .
Part 6 Habit 3 Put First Things first
Although this habit is extremely obvious people don't get it through their minds. It's prioritizing the most important things first. People who prioritize their schedule live life with less stress because they aren't procrastinating. Having stress in your mind is like a headache, instead of keeping that "headache" finish your work and it won't be on your mind. Sean Covey created a quadrant which includes the prioritizer, procrastinator, yes-man, and slacker. All of these names speak for themselves and I think I relate most to the slacker because I always extend my break from homework.
Part 7 The Relationship Bank Account
RBA is just like the same concept as the PBA, the only difference being, the relationship is with others. The author makes many great analogies in this story and this is one of them. I strongly agree that RBA is just like a bank account, every time you make friends with another it's like opening a bank account and keeping promises to them. Deposits can be keeping loyal to a friend, being kind, etc.
Part 8 Habit 4 Think win win
This chapter talks about how everyone can be a champion and be happy. The author also lists other situations such as win-lose, lose-win, and lose-lose. Win-win is when you care for everyone else, but also care for yourself. For instance, if your friend gets into Harvard be happy for them don't get all competitive of who is more smarter than other. Although competition is great in many ways don't let it ruin friendships.
Part 9 Habit 5 Seek first to understand, Then be understood
This section, Sean Covey says to listen to people sincerely. It's great when you know someone cares about what you're saying and opinion. This is one of the most key things to communicating with others. No teacher wants to explain the lesson twice because a couple of ignorant students didn't want to learn. The purpose of the teacher is to teach and the students are there to learn. No one should be felt as if they were useless, everyone deserves to be listened to.
Part 10 Habit 6 Synergize
This habit is an important one and its synergy. Synergy is to work together to receive a better outcome. This also means that we should respect diversity because if we don't how are we going to work together when there is an issue? When many people work together there are more opportunities created.
Part 11 Habit 7 Sharpen the saw
This last habit, the author says "sharpening the saw" makes life easier. He lists 4 things that you should renew is the heart, body, soul, and brain. For instance, if there is too much on your brain take some time to do something that will relieve your stress and start with a fresh mind. He also says you should relax, get good sleep, eat well, exercise, and take good care of your body. The lesson is if you feel down, get back up and take the challenge with a better mindset.

food inc questions
1.List the different forms of leadership you saw in the movie.
A form of leadership I saw in the film was when Instead of weeping for a long time the boy who dies kevin's mother went to find a solution to the problem that lead to his death which was food poisoning. The other type of leadership I saw in the video was the farmer who let everybody see the truth about chicken farms by going against the company he worked for.

2.Techniques of making of documentary. How they were effective.
A technique I saw was when there was a farmer on the blacklist and his friend was in the video but he didn't want anybody to know who he was so they put him in the shadows so he could talk without people knowing about the truth of the company he worked for.

3.What content was provocative. What in the video made you react.
That the modified chickens are made to be so big that when they walk they break their legs so its animal cruelty. That the factory system had taken over everything. Lastly that cows were being fed corn which is not natural and healthy for them but only because it was cheap and would make them fat.

4.Overall thoughts of video/ rating. Was it worth watching.
I thought the video was really interesting and it was worth watching. I think it was worth watching because it's critically important to know what exactly you're eating. This video showed the truth about the food industry and the factory system together.
