First Weekly Check in
This week I really focused on finding an app that will be very useful to me through this year. Before I started searching for apps I made a check list for myself. First this app needs to calculate calories but also other nutrients like protein. Second this app needs to have an area where we can add our own food to count calories. Thirdly this app needs to able to calculate how many calories I need for my weight. I found this app called myfitnesspal which has all things I need.
Second Weekly Check in
This week my main focus was to find a person to talk to with a background that is related to my project. When I started brainstorming ideas, I first thought of my instructors at my MMA gym. When I asked them, they said that they mostly focus on cutting weight rather than gaining. My second choice was my sisters friend from Ottawa. He is vegan body builder who has a lot of experience in this sort of topic. Even though I am on a vegetarian diet talking to him will still useful.
Third weekly Check in
This week i focused only completing the questions that I will be asking my community connection. I also started to brain storm ideas on a food schedule.
Community Connection
For my IDS Community Connection I decided to talk to someone who was quite experienced with gaining and cutting weight. In my head I was like who could be better to talk to than a mma trainer. I decided to talk to Jayden Martin from FKP Kickboxing. It was also easy to talk to him because he said he was my size, when he was my age. These are the questions and answers.
What type of vegetarian food do you think I can eat that has a lot of protein or calories?
You should try to eat avocados because one avocado has a lot of calories. If you have many that will be enough. Just drink lots of milk, keep doing what you are doing by eating lentils.
How fast was your metabolism when you were my age?
My metabolism was really fast when I was your. I had to go on a strict diet when I started fighting.
What motivated you to keep pushing and not give up on your weight gain journey?
The fact that I wanted to get bigger.
what type of food do you eat when you are building muscle mass?
I do eat meat a lot of times now but sometimes I just stick to a vegan diet, its very efficient when you have a limited amount of time.
How long did it take you to gain your weight?
When I was younger, I didn't really worry about gaining weight right away. But recently, now that I am a professional fighter I constantly have to change my to see which weight classes are the best for me, especially this early in my career. So I would say around 1-2 months for cutting 10 pounds and 1-3 months for gaining 10 pounds.

Fourth weekly Check in
Throughout the winter break and the past week I have been gained 3 healthy pounds. I am trying my best to follow my food schedule that I have made which is connected to the food app i have been using called my fitness pal. I also made changes in my diet. I am starting to eat more foods filled with protein rather than carbohydrates. While examining my old diet I saw that I was eating a lot more carbs than protein, so I switched the two around.
Fifth Weekly Check in Feb 11th
For the past few weeks I have not been gaining any weight. I have not been gaining any extra weight since the 3 pounds I gianed earlier in the month. This week I plan adding 100 calories to all my meals. I will also add 100 grams in general for all 4 of my meals.
6th weekly Check in Feb 18th
This week has been a very eventful week. I went to workout everyday of the week. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I went to kick boxing and conditioning and muay thai. On tuesday and thursday I went to full mma classes. During this week I have stayed away from any type of junk food to see what it would do to my body and I am very impressed with my results.
7th weekly Check in Feb 25th
This week Ive tried out different types of lentil curries. My favourite was made from sprouted green lentil called (maag). It was soaked for a day and was tied with a cotton cloth. This lentil was useful to my life because I can also eat it raw and I would have to cook it. Unlike last week I only went to my muay thai class this week but a lot of it was workout based rather than technique based.
8th weekly Checkin Mar 3rd
I was sick for most of this week so I couldn't really do anything extra. Worst of all I actually lost two pounds. I am currently at 136.5, I plan on pushing for a stronger week next week.
